AmandaGorman,Billie Eilish, TimothéeChalamet, and Naomi Osaka co-chairedthis year’s Met Gala. Tom Ford, Adam Mosseriand Anna Wintourweretheevent’s Honorary Chairs. Eleanor Lambert, the legendary fashion publicist, startedthe Met Gala in 1948 to raise funds for the department. The Gala, New York’sanswer to the Oscars, has raised over $186 million since Wintour took over fromDianaVreeland in 1995. The Costume Institute will present a two-part exhibitiontitledIn America: A Lexicon of FashionandIn America: An Anthology ofFashion.These shows celebrate the 75thAnniversary of The Costume Institute, acollection of over 33,000items sampling fashion from the 15thcentury to thepresent.

The Met Gala markedthe opening of part one of the exhibition, which features 80ensembles that define American fashion, on display in the Anna Wintour CostumeCenter.
