A Stylish Tradition with Designer Serena Uziyel
When it comes to fashion some time-honored looks will always be in style. The magical touch of designer Serena Uziyel manages to regard the past historical movements of her culture alongside the most revered modern trends.
“I have an immense admiration for tradition, art and craftsmanship and I’m constantly inspired by my family history and my origin,” stated Uziyel in a recent interview with Vogue Arabia. “My heritage is a big part of who I am as a designer, and I’m always interested in exploring different forms of artistry around the world – this is what led me to establish my namesake collection last year.”
Going on she explains in the same insightful article, “Statement pieces with ‘ancient glamor’ are one of the aspects that our customers seek the most; they value bright colors, handcraft details and the positive energy of ‘shine.’ We use a special ancient wrapping technique for our Catena Notte chains, Naria accessories, with three shades of gold and three shades of silver threads mixed together; it’s an intricate process that takes from 35 to 70 hours to create one full pair of chains but it also means no two shoes are the same.”
From start to finish, Uziyel’s approach and appreciation to culture are highly regarded across the world, especially in America where consumers and stylists are paying close attention to her impressive portfolio.
“I am very motivated and empowered every time someone from a different part of the world discovers the Serena Uziyel collection and appreciates the inspiration and the work that goes into making every piece,” states the designer.
The Turkish artist’s remarkable backstory activated grand motivation for the start of her namesake collection of shoes and bags. The former graduate of Parsons School of Design in New York has been linked with the likes of Moschino, Donna Karan and Calvin Klein where she worked under their brilliant guidance to hone her own superb skills. Even a stint at Zara had her developing a keen sense of fashion where she honed her shoe-making skills at the high-street behemoth. In a short period of time, she has turned her incredible vision and work ethic into a powerful space that encompasses her own line of shoes and bags with chic interior design and lifestyle.
Uziyel’s childhood obsession with accessories has turned into a worldwide successful business that is taking over the fashion industry. Her collection of feminine and whimsical pieces are reflective of her Ottoman heritage. The powerful background has launched her brand of handbags and shoes on Net-A-Porter, where the collection has been selling out, and will also now be at Saks 5th Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus and Matches Fashion soon.
“My dream is for Serena Uziyel to become a staple in every customer’s wardrobe each season,” stated the designer in a recent Forbes article. “Hopefully over the next five years we will expand the Serena Uziyel footprint through opening boutiques in key markets, in an effort to reach as many inspiring women around the world as possible.”
