Analysis of the Nod-Krai Faction in Genshin Impact
With the arrival of Genshin Impact version 6.0, “Song of the Welkin Moon,” the mysterious region of Nod-Krai, located at the southern edge of Snezhnaya and bordering Natlan, has finally begun to reveal its veiled mysteries. This land, centered around the motif of the moon and blending Nordic aesthetics with a fantastical setting, is not only a historical legacy of Snezhnaya’s external expansion but also a complex stage where eleven factions intersect and contend.
1. Geography and History: The Curse of the Moon and the Clash of Civilizations
The name Nod-Krai carries a dual-layered metaphor. The term “Krai” comes from the Russian word for “borderland,” hinting at its geographic position at the edge of Teyvat, while the prefix “Nod” is drawn from the biblical “land of Cain’s exile,” reflecting the scattered refugees and fragmented self-governance seen in the region. Once the frontier of Snezhnaya’s expansion, it became a focal point of contestation following the discovery of the Ancient Moon’s Remnants. This energy source, older than the Seven Elements, prompted the Fatui’s “The Doctor” to establish a base, while northern Abyssal incursions worsened the environment, and southern mechanical ruins and ecological restoration zones became the lair of the Wild Hunt
2. Core Faction: The Triangle of Faith, Interest, and Survival
Fatui
Under the call of the supreme directive, the “Palestar Edict,” all Fatui Harbingers were urgently recalled to Snezhnaya and swiftly dispatched to Nod-Krai. Their mission was clear: to target the Ancient Moon’s Remnants and confront the sinister experiments being conducted by The Doctor. The Fatui’s forceful intervention instantly shattered the already fragile balance among the local factions. Their “army bearing the banner of the Azure Star” stands as a vivid symbol of Snezhnaya’s direct imperial ambitions, signaling an unstoppable drive for expansion. In the near future, the mysterious veils of the Fatui Harbingers will be gradually lifted, revealing the stories behind each of them. The Fatui Harbingers names and the legendary experiences associated with them will be fully unveiled. In Nod-Krai, however, the Fatui face a resilient resistance endowed with primal divine power and a strong sense of local identity. It is clear that their advance in this land will be far more challenging than previously anticipated.
Frostmoon Scions
The Frostmoon Scions, as the direct descendants of the golden realm, Hyperborea, are the most tragic indigenous force of Nod-Krai. Following the collapse of their civilization five hundred years ago, they chose to live in seclusion in the mountains and forests, with the only thing they never abandoned being their faith in the “Moon Goddess.”
One of their members, Lauma (Vision: Dendro), can transform into a deer. This ability not only grants her excellent exploration capabilities (acceleration, rock climbing, and rapid movement over water) but also hints at her deep connection with nature.
Lightkeepers
As an “ancient organization that has long resisted the endless invasions of the Abyss and the Wild Hunt, safeguarding the freedom and peace of Nod-Krai,” the Lightkeepers trace their history back to the Dark Calamity five hundred years ago. Founded by warriors of the Nightingale lineage and granted autonomous authority by the Tsaritsa, their signature weapon, the Kuuvahki, combines Nordic knightly spirit with steampunk aesthetics, with its massive mechanical structure and icy prismatic effects serving as iconic symbols.
Flins’ full name is Kyryll Chudomirovich Flins. He is a prominent figure of the Lightkeepers. Although intelligence on him is limited, the organization as a whole has been severely weakened by prolonged warfare, and the new generation of members faces the challenge of redefining their mission. Notably, the “lights” of the Lightkeepers are not merely physical sources of illumination but may also symbolize a spiritual faith that dispels the Abyss, subtly resonating with the Frostmoon Scions’ worship of the Moon Goddess.
Voynich Guild
The name of the guild is derived from the Polish word Wojnicz, meaning “conflict,” aptly reflecting the character of Nod-Krai. The organization was founded by merchants from Nasha Town, ostensibly to maintain order, but in reality, it is controlled by the matron of the Curatorium of Secrets, who runs an underground intelligence network. The guild maintains covert collaborations with the Treasure Hoarders of Liyue and technological factions of Snezhnaya, and may even have hidden connections to the Hexenzirkel or the Abyss. Its dual nature makes it a key variable in the unfolding storyline.
Snowland Fairies
These fairies, once followers of the first Cryo Archon, Belyi Tsar, in governing the Northern Lands, have fallen from their former prominence yet continue to leave a deep mark on Nod-Krai. Gifted in controlling natural elements like ice, snow, and plants, their “small and nimble” forms complement the deer forms of the Frostmoon Scions, enriching the ecological diversity. Facing disasters, their decisions will challenge the enduring survival wisdom of this ancient people.
Clink-Clank Krumkake Craftshop
The mechanical workshop, developed by a genius mechanic from the “Most Delicious Egg Roll Machine,” combines everyday charm with technological innovation. This contrast-driven design not only provides a touch of humor but also hints at the flourishing folk technology in Nod-Krai, with the mechanical parts it produces potentially serving as key items in the storyline.
Knights of Favonius
Under the leadership of Varka, Grand Master of the Varka, an elite squad of the Mondstadt expeditionary forces crossed Snezhnaya to reach Nod-Krai and carry out a critical mission. The involvement of the Knights of Favonius not only underscores Mondstadt’s internationalist stance but may also represent a key chapter in Varka’s personal epic. As symbols of justice and peace, the Knights of Favonius share ideological resonance with native defenders such as the Lightkeepers, potentially forming a unified front against the Abyss.
Hexenzirkel
“Nod-Krai, situated at the edge of the world, has always been a stage where conflict and drama unfold, and Mages are naturally part of the scene.” Hexenzirkel members Nicole Reeyn (codename N) and Alice (codename A) are expected to enter the banner. As Klee’s mother, Alice’s “spectacular abilities” may involve summoning massive Pyro elements, hinting at Hexenzirkel’s research and application of the Ancient Moon’s power. The scheming of the Hexenzirkel forms an intellectual counterpoint to the Abyss’s raw violence, creating a duality of mind versus force.
The Wild Hunt
As the tangible manifestation of the Abyss, the Wild Hunt is a horde of lost-souled fiends “sweeping across plains and canyons like a storm.” Their whispered pursuit likely centers on the Ancient Moon’s Remnants or the truth behind the fall of the Golden Realm. The presence of the Wild Hunt elevates the Abyss threat from a background setting to a frontline conflict, providing organizations like the Lightkeepers with a continuous adversary.
Under the moonlight, Nod-Krai is not only a battleground for competing factions but also a profound exploration of human nature, awaiting every traveler to write their own chapter.
